The premise
Pay, price, debt, interest, contracts, banks: none of it is natural. Each one has a first — usually in Mesopotamia or Anatolia, usually on clay. Somebody wrote the first IOU, struck the first coin, and got the first paycheck (it was beer).
Every episode starts at your hand — the coin in your pocket, your Tuesday beer — and walks backwards to the moment it began.

Claims are easy; receipts are rare. Every episode ends its argument at a physical object in a real museum — a tablet you can read, a coin you can weigh, a residue you can test. We call this segment The Receipt, and no first is declared without one.

How it's made
We only ever claim “the first we know of.” Firsts are contested, digs continue, and when scholarship hedges, so do we — on screen, in plain words.
